Read Romans 3:21-26

“For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified [g]freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 3:23-24)

Our journey start by accepting the gospel message that Jesus died for my sins. It is at the cross, he paid the penalty on my behalf, that as I repent from my sins, I am forgiven. Being justified by faith in Christ, we have now received the righteousness of God (v.22).

We have been Forgiven (v.22-26)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23), but in order to satisfy the wrath of God against sins, Jesus shed His blood at the cross on our behalf. From this sacrificial act, God has passed over our sins that we have committed.  It is through Christ’s redeeming grace that we are justified by our faith in Him.

The Act of Receiving Forgiveness

If God has forgiven me, then my first act as I put on this new creation, is to forgive myself. Hebrews 12:1 speaks about a new race that we will run. We are told to lay aside every weight that we may be carrying, or sins that can ensnare us, to run with endurance the race that is set before us. Looking on to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

God’s forgiveness has set me free. Past sins and regrets should not weight me down. Today, I choose to lay all these burdens at the cross and receive God’s forgiveness. I choose also to forgive myself and will not allow the devil to use my past to accuse me as one unworthy of God’s grace. Today I am a new creation before God, fully forgiven and set free. My sins are buried with Christ at the cross. I choose to no longer live in sin.

Application and Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for the forgiveness of our sins. You have justified us by the shedding your blood at the cross for us. Today, I too, want to move forward to dawn on the newness of life that you have given me. I too, choose to forgive myself of sins and actions that I regretted to have committed that cause hurt to self and others. I lay all these aside at the cross, ready now to run this race that you have set before me. Be the author and finisher of my faith I pray. Amen.

Romans 3:21 - 26

21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
